Bioware hasn’t revealed a whole lot about Anthem, its shared world third person action title that’s been in development for the past few years. It seems that lack of information wasn’t a coincidence – according to sources that spoke to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, Anthem is still a ways off from release and won’t arrive until early 2019.
The game is currently planned to release in Fall 2018 but sources told Schreier that such a release window was “never realistic”. Another source noted that the delay could be due to issues with the Frostbite Engine, which has been giving Bioware grief since the days of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Production itself seems to be going smoothly though thanks to Bioware bringing on staff members from other teams to assist with Anthem.
Whether Anthem meets EA’s projected fiscal year 2019 release remains to be seen but it likely won’t be delayed beyond March 2019. Will that be the right path, especially given the scope and scale of the project? We’ll find out in the coming months and await and official statement for Electronic Arts in the meantime.
