Anthem Has Now Entered Alpha Stage And Is Fully Playable

The developers will now focus entirely on bug fixes and on polishing the game up before its full release.

Anthem’s developers have been revealing a lot of interesting information about the game (such as their approach to storytelling), while they’ve also been engaging with the community by constantly answering fans’ questions. Now, with nearly half a year still to go before the game’s full launch, BioWare has revealed that Anthem has entered the alpha stage of development, which means that it is fully playable, and there is no new content left to be added to the game (at least up until launch), and from now on, BioWare will be focusing on fixing bugs and polishing the game.

BioWare general manager Casey Hudson wrote in a new update on the official BioWare blog, “Last week, the Anthem team passed its Alpha milestone – meaning that every part of the game is in, and functioning.  It’s a ton of fun to play, and full of engaging character moments and storylines. But it’s also exciting to see people around the office (and at our partner studios) grouping together for adventures in this new world we’ve created. BioWare games have always been about capturing a shared experience – whether through a party of fictional characters or other players – and somehow the idea of players being immersed together in the universe of Anthem makes the setting seem even more real.”

Hudson also wrote about how the team is feeling “a sense of the magic” with they’ve created, mentioning that this is reminiscent of the feeling they had when they had first worked on classic cRPG Baldur’s Gate. Hudson also wrote about how there is still a lot of work left to do for a game this big even now. He wrote, “The team has been working incredibly hard to reach Alpha, and considering the complexity and scale of a game like Anthem, hitting this milestone on time is a tremendous achievement. So what’s next?  Now that all the important pieces are in the game, we can move almost entirely to bug-fixing, testing, and tuning – which will be an incredible amount of work on a game this big. We have some really ambitious plans for launch and beyond, and we really want to get it right.  We will have news soon about when you can learn more about Anthem and try it out yourself.”

Anthem is set to release for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 22, 2019. BioWare recently released detailed information on how you can get into the game a bit before its release. Read more on that through here.
