Anthem May Have First Person Shooting Mechanics

As per a new job ad for BioWare.

Anthem, the upcoming new IP being worked on at BioWare, will have both first person camera and third person camera. This was something that we reported on earlier, way back when the game was revealed- that, in line with what was shown in the game’s very first demo, it would be first person in hubs and third person all the other times. And now, as per a new job ad, it looks like that the game may possibly have first person shooting as well.

BioWare’s Austin studio is looking to hire a principal gameplay designer specifically for Anthem, and interestingly enough, one of the requirements for the applicant seems to be experience with first person shooters. More specifically, the job ads requires the applicant to “have exceptional hands on experience with game mechanics in 1st or 3rd person shooters space”.

As we already mentioned, the first gameplay footage that was shown off for Anthem started off in first person view (but there was no shooting involved), but if this job listing is anything to go by, the game may allow players to switch between perspectives during shooting as well. Star Wars: Battlefront, a fellow EA shooter franchise that also runs on Frostbite, just as Anthem will, also has both camera perspectives, and both seem to work really well, so it makes sense to assume that the same could be the case for the upcoming BioWare game as well.

Anthem was recently delayed from its originally announced 2018 release date to a more realistic 2019 schedule, with pressure ramping up on the developers to meet expectations and do it in time. You can read the report here.
