Anthem’s Loot System May Get Reworked, As Per New Job Listings

BioWare is hiring new designers related to the loot and reward system.

The launch of EA and BioWare’s Anthem has been anything but smooth. From a critical thrashing, which largely came from the game’s huge amount of technical problems, to now known behind-the-scenes troubles that saw massive development issues (allegedly the game we got was only in full production for less than 18 months), to horror stories about crunch that saw some employees locking themselves in rooms to cry amidst the chaos of the game’s development. Despite that, it seems EA and BioWare are keeping faith with Anthem, and some recent job openings at the developer’s Austin studio point to the loot system potentially getting an overhaul.

A fan on the game’s official Reddit page pointed out some of the openings that all relate to the game’s loot and reward system. Specifically, Senior Systems Designer for Loot, Item Creation, Store and Reward Pipeline, and Combat Balance. Based on the names and descriptions, they all point to a potential reworking of the loot and reward system, as each, sans Combat Balance, have direct relation to those aspects of the game. You can check those out (and links to apply to the positions) at the above links.

It’ll be interesting to see if BioWare can turn around the reputation of the game in the coming months and years. Anthem is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
