It took no time for Apex Legends to have an explosion of popularity, having already crossed 25 million players since its surprise launch. As is the case with any ongoing service-based games, though, the real test for the game will be in how it sustains that popularity. Respawn Entertainment have talked about how they plan on supporting the free-to-play battle royale title for many years, and recent leaks might have hinted at their immediate plans to do just that.
Through datamining efforts over at GamingIntel, we have info that hints at more modes being added to the game in the foreseeable future. Though right now Apex Legends is a game that can only be played in three player squads, files found in the game mention modes for squads of two players, six player, twelve players, and even twenty-four players. It’s possible that some of these might be tied to limited time events, a la Fortnite (especially the 12 player and 24 player-squads).
Additionally, @ApexGameInfo on Twitter also reports on more information found through datamining, which suggests that a vehicle – specifically, a hoverbike – will be added to the game soon. Right now, there are no drivable vehicles in Apex Legends, but files particular to spawning and physics for the hoverbike suggest that that might be about to change soon.
As is the case with all leaks, it’s best to not take this as cemented confirmation by any means for now, but at least it gives us an indication of the kinds of additions Respawn might be looking to add to their game. Apex Legends is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
