With the release of its latest update to ARC Raiders, Embark Studios has confirmed that it is investigating reports of players having lost some of their gear despite having successfully extracted. In a statement, it confirmed that it is looking at player reports on a case-by-case basis, and that it will be returning items that players may have lost over the course of the next few days.
The studio also noted that while it isn’t in the habit of offering compensation for such incidents, the fact that a large number of players were affected by outages last week has led it to making an exception in this case.
“Last week’s server issues caused some of you to lose your loadouts even after a successful extraction,” said the studio in its statement. “We are reviewing these cases and will return items where possible over the next few days. While we do not normally offer compensation for every incident, this outage impacted a large number of players, so we are making an exception. Thanks for bearing with us while we sorted it out.”
As for the update itself, it brings new cosmetic items—the Devotee Outfit set, and two new haircuts. Along with this, the update largely focuses on fixing bugs and exploits, like a strange interaction between Ziplines and Blue Gate, and an issue with Electromagnetic Storm’s lightning to appear too frequently.
Interestingly, the studio had released another small update for ARC Raiders just last week to fix a dangerous security exploit revolving around how the title interacts with Discord’s software development kit (SDK). The exploit was discovered by distributed systems engineer Timothy Meadows, and essentially exposes private DMs between Discord users in a local game log file without any encryption. Embark Studios took to its official Discord server to confirm that this exploit has been fixed.
“Rest assured that your private and/or personal data was not sent outside your machine and Embark has not (and will not) review or keep such information. We will disable the Discord SDK logging and are conducting a deeper audit to ensure no further issues,” wrote the studio.
The most recent major update to have hit ARC Raiders was February’s Shrouded Sky, which brought with it a new map condition—the Hurricane. The map condition presents new dangers and opportunities for adventurous raiders. While it severely lowers visibility thanks to intense winds that also happen to affect players’ mobility, those looking for ways to sneak up on other raiders can take advantage of the situation. Shields are also at a major disadvantage, since the strong winds kick up debris, causing shields to frequently malfunction.
Interestingly, the Hurricane map condition seems to be hiding a secret that might hint towards future content that Embark Studios has in store for ARC Raiders. Players took to social media platforms to discuss the appearance of strange flying objects over the clouds when the map condition is in effect. Through analysis of screenshots, members of the game’s community have noted that it is likely the silhouette of a single larger object, rather than that of a group of smaller ones.
ARC Raiders is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
