Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon – AC Parts, Cosmetic Customization, and OS Upgrades Detailed

Players can change out parts depending on the mission, while OS Upgrades can completely change the feel of an Armored Core.

Following its new gameplay preview, FromSoftware’s Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has received several new details and hands-on impressions. The PlayStation Blog details various customization aspects, including the Armory, where players will customize their Armored Core or AC.

Objectives in the game are “ever-shifting”, so you’ll need to customize your AC to match. You can change the limbs, weapons, boosters, weight class, core and defensive systems. Schnieder Legs give more mobility and higher jumping, which may be good against rival ACs, while the Caterpillar Tank Legs are for heavier weapons and armor when facing several smaller foes.

However, there are no restrictions – you can attempt any mission with any combination of parts. It’s also possible to customize the look of ACs, from the color to the condition and texture. If you want your AC to look rusted and decrepit, go for it.

Finally, there’s the OS Upgrade, a new feature to the series. It offers “additional adjustments” that change the AC’s feel, like faster turning, forgoing shoulder add-on weapons for swappable handheld weapons, more armor for Assault Boost, etc. You can also choose manual targeting for the classic feel of older games instead of auto-targeting.

“Each of these OS Upgrades can completely change the playing field, especially when fighting against tough opponents, such as the case of being able to swap from a machine gun to a heavy-hitting bazooka on the fly to more readily devastate a staggered enemy.”

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon launches on August 25th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
