Bandai Namco and FromSoftware unveiled Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon at The Game Awards for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Launching in 2023, it’s the first game in the series since Armored Core: Verdict Day. Screenshots from the trailer and details on the story and gameplay are available, and thankfully, it doesn’t look like another Souls-like.
Instead, Armored Core 6 is a “new action game” from both companies based on “the knowledge gained during joint development of their recent titles.” “By combining FromSoftware’s longstanding expertise in mech games and their signature robust gameplay, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will be a new action experience.”
Like previous games, players will pilot a mech and move freely in “three-dimensional fast-paced missions.” Ranged and melee combat is available, along with a “variety of actions that can only be truly realized with mechs.”
As revealed in the leaked survey earlier this year, the story revolves around a strange substance on the planet Rubicon 3. Though meant as an energy source, it consumed the planet and its surrounding stars, creating the Burning Star System. Nearly 50 years later, the substance has resurfaced, and corporations and resistance groups fight over it.
As an independent mercenary, the player is caught up in the war over the substance. Though Hidetaka Miyazaki was the Initial Game Director, Masaru Yamamura has now taken over directorial duties. Yamamura has worked on the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne, more recently being the lead designer for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Stay tuned for more details on Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon in the coming months.
