As one of the big releases this Fall, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has presented quite the new take for series fans. Taking place in the era of Vikings, players will control Eivor as he establishes settlement in Anglo-Saxon England. Raiding and pillaging aside though, what makes Eivor the character? Narrative director Darby McDevitt discussed this in a recent video on Twitter.
Addressing a question about how the team has ensured “strong characterization for both versions of the character,” McDevitt says that this is done by having a “coherent character with a coherent personality.” Throughout the game, Eivor will make different decisions but inherently, he/she will still be Eivor by the end. This helps to create a more “complete” character.
One interesting example was being able to listen to an NPC lying and either letting them continue with the lie to glean more information or simply calling them out. Both choices can lead to different consequences and we’re intrigued to see how this plays out in the bigger narrative picture. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia when it launches this year. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay especially with Ubisoft Forward slated for July.
