Battlefield 3: No Modding Tools Due To Complex Frostbite Engine

During an interview with German gaming magazine, GameStar, EA DICE’s Patrick Söderlund has confirmed that Battlfield 3 will not support modding. The game will not ship with modding tools due to the complexity in Frostbite Engine.

This should apparently come as a huge disappointment for pc modders across the world.

According to Patrick, Frostbite 2 is complex and it wll be very difficult for people to mod the game. The reasons being the way the levels are designed and the destruction engine as a result of which modding could become pretty difficult.

He also thinks that making mods under such a scenario could become pretty challenging. But were developing mods easy to begin with? Modders love challenges and I think DICE should launch with mod tools.

Patrick also confirms the fact that they will have Call of Duty Elite like  features, the only difference being that they will be free for the players.

Battlefield 3 is due on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in October.
