Battlefield 5 Developers Want Players To Play The Objectives

"If you play the objective you’ll also get squad reinforcement points."

Battlefield 5 multiplayer has traditionally had the reputation of requiring at least slightly more thought, nuance, and teamwork that Call of Duty multiplayer- a lot of which has to do with the fact that the way its multiplayer modes are, players are practically required to work together and coordinate, to play the objective.

As it turns out, that’s because of the mentality DICE has when it develops these games: their mindset is that players should be playing the objectives, and their modes are designed to facilitate that. Speaking to gamersTM, DICE Design Director Daniel Berlin explicitly pointed out how “playing the objective” is what DICE wants from its players.

“Executing squad play commands – such as reviving, executing orders, giving ammo and spawning on each other – or PTFO: if you play the objective you’ll also get squad reinforcement points,” he said. “What this does is give you access to items like the V1 rocket. It doesn’t matter how bad the situation is around you, if you drop that V1, everybody fucking goes away.

“We also have super-powerful powerhouse vehicles that are built for your entire squad to fit inside and play together. You can call these types of vehicles in, and they are only for your squad to spawn into. This has the same mentality: if this thing comes at you and you aren’t geared to deal with it, you aren’t playing a class leaning towards taking out vehicles, then you should just leave, because it will kill everyone. It’s something you get for team play and for playing with your squad. This is important. You will not be able to get access to these by basically doing the lone wolf thing. These are rewards for squad players, for players that play the objective.”

It sounds like gameplay will be more tactical with this game, then, than it has been for the last couple of installments in the series, which had been streamlining a lot of these mechanics- which, I am sure, many players will appreciate. Battlefield 5 comes out this October. It will be launching for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
