Battlefield 5 New Details: Perk Changes, Specialization Crossovers, Trade-offs, and More

DICE's Lead Engagement Designer talks about changes made to weapons specializations.

DICE have been making a number of changes to Battlefield 5 based on all the feedback they’ve received from the game’s beta, with a number of changes still to come. We now have info on some more changes that they’ll be making to the game- more specifically, to balancing for weapons specializations.

The lack of trade-offs with weapon specializations was one of the things that people had issues with in the game’s beta, but according to DICE’s Lead Engagement Designer Erik Ortman, that aspect has been changed for the game’s final release. Ortman recently took to Twitter to confirm that weapon specializations in Battlefield 5 will now come with negative aspects and trade-offs as well, while also providing a short clip that showed how that would happen.

Ortman also confirmed that players would be able to mix and match specializations and wouldn’t have to stick with any presets, since the game wants to encourage experimentation and variation. Additionally, Ortman also confirmed in a separate tweet that players would be able to revert their perk changes so that they essentially wouldn’t have to end up buying two of the same weapons.

Battlefield 5 launches on November 20 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. DICE recently released the full list of weapons, vehicles, and gadgets that the game would be launching with. Read more on that through here.
