Much like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Battlefield 5 will have battle royale mode to cash in on the latest trend popularized by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite. However, this battle royale mode will actually be coming after the game itself has launched.
It also seems like DICE themselves will not be developig the battle royale mode at all- according to a statement made by Star Wars Battlefront Global Community Manager Ben Walker on Reddit (via MP1st), the battle royale mode is being developed by another studio entirely. In case you have forgotten, Battlefront was also developed by DICE (as was its sequel), so we don’t have any reason to disbelieve Walker, and not to take him on his word right now.
It’s unclear whether the battle royale mode has been contracted to an external studio, or if some EA studio has been given duties- in the past, EA has divvied up its multiplayer games among its own development teams, so I will assume it’s the latter. For instance, the single player campaign in the DICE developed Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was made entirely by EA Motive.
Battlefield 5 launches October 11 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
