Beyond Good and Evil 2 is Still in “Early Development”, May Have Been Rebooted – Rumour

A new report has claimed that after 15 years of production, Ubisoft's frequently delayed sequel is still years off from launch.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been something of an embarrassment for Ubisoft. After years of demands from fans for a sequel to the original, Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced way back in 2016, but updates on the title and its development dried up in subsequent years, the project was hit with a number of delays, and it’s now at a point where it’s very been widely considered to be vaporware.

And though it may not technically be vaporware, it seems like it’s still quite a ways off from launch. In a report published on Insider-Gaming, journalist Tom Henderson claims that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in “early development”, six years on from its announcement and after 15 years of production (in some form or the other). This echoes reports earlier in the year that stated the game was still in pre-production.

Henderson states that internal and external playtests were conducted over the Summer, with the game featuring “bare” planets, “blocked” structures and buildings, and low quality of details and visuals. The suggestion, it seems, is that development has been rebooted, with very little of the game resembling what was featured in its 2018 pre-alpha (barring the spaceships, apparently).

In a statement, Ubisoft has said, “Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development is underway and the team is hard at work to deliver on its ambitious promise.”

Clearly, it’s going to be a while before we get any concrete updates on the state of the game and its development. Henderson speculates in his report that we might not be hearing anything about it for at least another couple of years.
