Borderlands 2: SHiFT Codes can do more, anti-hacking patch bound incoming for the Xbox 360

Xbox 360 users should be careful until this patch releases.

So far the only things Shift codes do is give you golden keys for unlocking the unique chest in Sanctuary. The chest, based on your level gives you a lot of bonuses, like secret weapons and so on.

However, no one knows if the key actually does anything other than unlock the chest. Gearbox Software head Randy Pitchford revealed on Twitter that they are indeed useful for something else too, but what that is he didn’t elaborate. Talk about a tease, but Gearbox’s Shift platform is certainly developed with more games in mind.

If you own the game on the Xbox 360, you are advised to wait a bit before the official patch is out on the console, because there are reports of the game getting hacked due to a program spread by some hackers.

“After extensive internal testing, an update to prevent this disruption has been submitted to Microsoft and will be released as soon as possible,” said community manager Chris Faylor.

“Until then, concerned Xbox 360 players of Borderlands 2 should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions. This does not affect players on PC or PlayStation 3.”

Borderlands 2 is an addictive game so it must be difficult to not play the game for a while, however, it’s for your own safety, the patch is in certification and will be released once approved by Microsoft.
