One of the key new additions to Borderlands 2 was Slag. When coating an enemy with the new element type, they would take increased damage from all non-Slag sources. Slag weapons were met with some criticism, but it seems Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 3 is doing away with them entirely.
According to Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford on Twitter, “There is no slag – we replaced it with something that actually makes a little sense. The new ‘element’ damage type, which is like a nuclear radiation effect, has a similar effect to slag (increased vulnerability by those affected) and also has a damage-over-time component.” Which sounds like a good element to have on its own rather than just using it to boost damage for non-Slag attacks.
Borderlands 3 will have a gameplay reveal event on May 1st, offering a closer look at the four new Vault Hunters and their abilities. We’ll also see more of the weaponry on offer, including guns with legs that walk around and insult your enemies. We already know about the different gun brands and how they’ll offer different fire modes, unique properties, and attachments.
Borderlands 3 will be releasing on September 13th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’s a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store on PC and will hit Steam in April 2020.
