2K and Gearbox Entertainment confirmed earlier this year that the next mainline Borderlands game was being actively worked on by the latter, and though there was never any doubt that a Borderlands 4 was coming, an official announcement of the next entry in the looter shooter franchise has remained elusive. According to Gearbox founder and CEO Randy Pitchford, however, that won’t be the case too much longer.
Speaking with GamesRadar, though Pitchford did not explicitly name Borderlands 4 as Gearbox’s next big project, he acknowledged the fact that he has made no secret of what the studio is working on with his statements in the past, before adding that the project is going to be announced sooner rather than later.
“I haven’t been perfect at hiding the fact that we’re working on many things, and that we’re working on big things,” Pitchford said. “I’m confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with the next video game project when we are ready to announce it. And I will tell you that we’re not going to be making people wait for a long time before we announce it.”
Interestingly enough, Pitchford also seemed to indicate that a sequel to Dungeons and Dragons-inspired spinoff Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is also in the works, which is something that leaks have previously claimed as well.
As per leaks from earlier in the year, Borderlands 4 is close to the finish line where its development is concerned, while the project also saw a leadership reshuffle to get it through the final stretch. Read more on that through here.
