Reports of Borderlands developer Gearbox Entertainment splitting off from the Embracer Group have been circulating, with an announcement allegedly coming this month. However, what of its upcoming projects?

According to two sources who spoke to Kotaku, it saw a creative shakeup. It shelved work on “exciting new projects and IPs” to focus on Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. The sequel to Borderlands 3 saw its leadership team reshuffled with the current goal of getting it “across the finish line.”

As for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2, mentioned in the LinkedIn profile of former technical director Randel R., it saw a soft reboot. While both titles are making good progress, layoffs at Gearbox, alongside hiring and pay raise freezes, have led to uncertainty. One anonymous developer said, “We’ve lost senior people because of this.”

Neither title is officially announced, though Pitchford did mention in September 2022 that “future experiences” in the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands franchise were in development. He later spoke about Borderlands last month and said the team was working on “the greatest thing we’ve ever done” regarding the same. As always, stay tuned for updates and future announcements.
