Gearbox Software has been quite good at teasing Borderlands 3, its long-awaited sequel in the famous first person looter shooter franchise. Before stating that it would be announced “when it’s ready”, the developer had also teased reveals for PAX East. Now, in a recent tweet by the developer, a road sign with the signature Borderlands aesthetic simply states “March 28th, Boston MA”, which is when PAX East will take place.
It could be a way to hook fans in, only for something else to be showcased. Regardless, the next Borderlands has been in development for a while. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed in September 2017 that a majority of the studio’s staff was busy with development of the title.
Even if it doesn’t release anytime soon, logic would dictate that there has to be some kind of tease, sooner or later. Maybe we’ll find out if the leaked character art has any legitimacy to it. How will Borderlands 3 fare in an industry where there’s tons more competition (like Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, which releases on March 15th)? Time will tell, so stay tuned for details.
