Borderlands “Pre-Sequel” Releasing in 2014? Moon Setting, New Weapon Classes Detailed

Rumours indicate that the game will be set between the first and second game.

You may take this particular rumour with the largest pinches of salt possible but according to GamePointsNow, a new Borderlands title will be out this year for PS3 and Xbox 360 (along with PC, we assume). It will apparently take place on Elpis, which is Pandora’s moon, during the five year interlude between the first two games and be developed by 2K Australia.

There will be four new characters: Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap. Athena is the melee character, while Wilhelm will make use of shoulder cannons and drones during battle. Nisha sounds like the Sheriff of Lynchwood from Borderlands 2 while Fragtrap is a modified Claptrap device. It seems all four will be working for programmer John – who becomes Handsome Jack – to locate an artefact. You’ll also be paying a visit to the Hyperion Corporation’s H-base it seems.

If that weren’t enough, players can look forward to new Laser and Cryo guns along with low gravity on Elpis facilitating the use of jet packs and oxygen kits. You’ll need to refill these “OX-kits” and also be able to destroy enemy helmets to cause them to die from oxygen loss.

As of now, there’s no confirmation from either 2K Games or Gearbox Software. The site claims that the title is out in 2014, but both Gearbox and 2K are staying quiet for the time being. What are your thoughts on the same? Let us know in the comments.
