Activision and Bungie have detailed the weapons that will be featured in their upcoming role playing first person shooter, Destiny. The weapons we are given a look at are named Closing Time, Gjallarhorn, Red Death, Duke MK.44, and Thunderlord. Let’s go through them briefly one by one.
The Closing Time is a sort of makeshift scope rifle. It is crafted of odd materials which signified the uniquely odd history behind it. Closing Time is a gun that you will never be the original owner of, rather you will find it while out in the wild or on missions in the arms of one less fortunate than yourself.
The Gjalarhorn is Destiny’s take on the rocket launcher. Art Director Tom Doyle shared his thoughts on this weapon: “This is the gilded weapon of a City Champion. It’s a very decorated Guardian weapon to say the least.” Doyle proceeds to describe what sounds more like an animal. “Feared and revered, with no attempt to be stealthy, it loudly announces its presence with a howl.”
The Red Death is Destiny’s “heavy metal” gun, as Doyle describes it. that precedes it. “A savage, bandit weapon. It’s provides a look into the world outside the City. This new frontier is harsh and, at times, cruel,” Tom observes. “This is a weapon that was taken from a fallen Guardian. The new owner had it repainted and modded – the optics were even hacked with new graphics.”
The Duke M.44 looks like more of your run of the mill handheld piece. “It’s a solid piece,” states Doyle. “This weapon is most commonly associated with newer Guardians who equip a sidearm in their primary loadout.”
The Thunderlord is no joke. According to this fact sheet, it poses just as much of a threat to whoever is using it as to whoever it’s being used on. “The ammunition is some kind of monster that they wouldn’t normally use,” Doyle warns. “The use of electro-static rounds over this amplitude has been prohibited due to their volatility.”
