All the eyes are on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for the annual shooter franchise right now, as it plans to shake up things for the series in potentially a big way. You may remember, though, that just before that reveal there was reports that the 2020 version of the game had hit some problems and that Treyarch had to unexpectedly take over development. Now, it looks like even more signs are pointing to that being the case with a new job listing.
If you don’t recall, there was several fairly credible reports that Call of Duty 2020 was going to be a Vietnam based game by developer Sledgehammer, the team behind Call of Duty: WWII and Advanced Warfare. Apparently due to several development issues Sledgehammer is off it with Treyarch having to take over and retrofit the game into Black Ops 5.
A new job listing at Treyarch popped up that mentioned working on a 2020 AAA title in development. Since Treyarch exclusively works on COD, it’s easy to put 2 and 2 together. They have since relisted that job, taking out the 2020 part, but the folks at CharlieINTEL have it archived.
Call of Duty tends to have a quick turnaround, but this is definitely going to be a tight one, especially since this will most likely be the first COD to release on next generation consoles going by historical precedent. Of course we won’t hear about this for roughly a year, so we can only wait and see.
