You expect lag when you play certain games online. Mainly Nintendo’s stuff, who are still so firmly entrenched in the 1999 era of online connectivity, it’s a surprise they manage to get a functional online mode working in the first place. What you don’t expect online issues from is basically the franchise that rules online gameplay with an iron fist, and has close to a decade now.
But that’s exactly what has happened with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, where players are reporting major lag. Lag that is making things so bad, in fact, that many are being dissuaded from playing the game at all. The lag issues, which owe themselves to the fact that the game still relies on a peer to peer connection, seem to be ruining a lot of players’ days (or nights).
NeoGAF user Frillen wrote, for example: “The netcode for me is absolutely horrible. I’m not going to continue playing this if it doesn’t improve, because right now I lose pretty much 95% of the one on one battles… This is the worst netcode I’ve ever experienced in a CoD. I basically have to camp now in order to have a decent chance at going 1.00 in a game. I still somehow have an overall K/D of 1.21 though, mostly because I camp.”
Fellow NeoGAF user Cajun added: “As pretty much everyone else is saying, the lag comp in this game is outright ridiculous. Not the worst I’ve ever played with in a game, but it’s definitely up there. Thinking you’re going to win a gunfight because you have the first 3 shots, only to be melted instantly instead is one of the most frustrating things that can happen in a fast paced game like this.”
Yeesh. Activision, Sledgehammer. Get this fixed, now. You don’t have a whole lot of time.
