We are less than two days away from the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Treyarch’s first next generation Call of Duty game, and the follow up to the widely acclaimed Black Ops and Black Ops II. But ahead of the official announcement, we are already getting all sorts of leaks. For instance, apparently someone has managed to get their hands on pre-order cards for Call of Duty: Black Ops III that will be available at GameStop this Sunday (presumably after the reveal), and they seem to indicate that the game will be launching on November 6 of this year.
The release date does not come as much of a surprise- Call of Duty always launches in the first half of November, and has been doing so for eight years now. What does come as a surprise, however, is that apparently, you will get access to a pre-release beta for the game on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, if you pre-order it. Call of Duty is not a series known for having pre-release betas, basically, so this makes it sound like Treyarch wants to ensure that its new gameplay changes for the franchise are tuned to players’ liking well before the game is out in the wild.
The pre-order card seems to indicate the game will be out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, which puts a dampener on all those rumors that the game will also be out for Wii U, or speculation that it will be coming to Xbox 360 and PS3. A dampener, that is, until you read the fine print- “Actual platform availability and launch date(s) to be determined.” It sounds like the information is accurate only inasmuch as there will be a beta for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game may yet be announced for Wii U, or the last gen boxes.
