Microtransactions are a harsh reality of video games and though there’s thankfully been a great deal of pushback against predatory practices and overbearing monetization policies in recent months and years, there’s also been a greater tolerance for cosmetic mircotransactions- which makes sense, to an extent, because they are just cosmetics. But this new available purchase in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is, to put it politely, a bit ridiculous.
Activision is basically selling players a single dot for 100 COD Points, which is $1 (via MP1st). You did not misread that- it’s a dot for $1. To be more specific, it’s a reticle that can be used in Reflex sights called “Open Dot”- and it costs a buck. Of course, thanks to the Holiday season sale that is currently in effect, you can buy that dot for 50 COD Points, or $0.5. Which is even more ridiculous, somehow. The good old days when we used to complain about having to purchase horse armour almost seem like paradise now.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
