Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Preorders Already Outpacing Call of Duty: WW2 Preorders

The Black Ops 4 reveal event was also the most watched reveal event in series history.

That headline was physically painful to write. Anyway, Activision has confirmed that preorders for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are outpacing the pre-orders for Call of Duty: WW2– which is truly impressive, given the overwhelmingly positive reception WW2‘s reveal got last year for the series “finally going back to its roots”, versus the more mixed reception Black Ops 4 has been met with. Guess most people really don’t care for the campaigns in these games.

Rob Kostich, EVP and GM, Call of Duty, said, The Black Ops 4 reveal trended #1 globally on Twitter, it broke franchise records for the most watched reveal in our history, and content from our community reveal event has already been viewed over 80 million times. Initial pre-orders are also strong through week one of reveal, and above last year.”

I suppose that the general goodwill that the Black Ops games have cultivated, as well as the fact that this is the strongest sub-series within the franchise, will have a lot to do with that. Plus, of course, the new Call of Duty game will have a battle royale mode, which is likely to appeal a lot to the demographic for the franchise. Now to see if Black Ops 4‘s pre-orders continue to outpace WW2‘s.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches this October for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
