The first weekend of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer beta is officially in the books, having gone live exclusively for PS4 and PS5. It received significant feedback, and Infinity Ward has addressed the same in new Community Update post.
It first noted the following changes for the beta’s second weekend, which begins tomorrow at 10 AM PST for all platforms that pre-ordered:
- Fixed various crashes
- Addressed a few game-play exploits
- Patched some map geo and lighting issues
- Updated progression for some Gunsmith-related bugs
There have been plenty of changes in multiplayer, like the enemy player dots only showing up on the mini-map with a UAV active. The developer wants players to “actively search out the origin of a gunshot versus just traveling directly to where the dot is on the mini-map.” It also noted issues with visibility when firefights occur and are looking to reduce muzzle smoke opacity while increasing muzzle flash visibility for enemies.
Besides nameplates, other ways to distinguish between allies and enemies are currently being investigated. These will be tested in this weekend’s beta, so stay tuned.
Issues like the UI posing some difficulty when editing perk packages, accessing the armory and managing loadouts have also been noted, in addition to bugs. While these won’t be fixed in time for the next beta phase, they are “top of mind” going into launch. Infinity Ward will also accelerate the earn rate of perks in the new Perk Package system and adjust the footstep audio range for various movements, among other changes.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. The campaign is available one week early for digital pre-orders.
