Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Gunsmith Will Have More Attachments and “Fine-Tuning”

Players may be able to equip 4-5 attachments for each weapon. Fine tuning attachments will provide "positive and negative effects."

Along with a new unified engine, advanced AI and other neat buzzwords, Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will see the return of the Gunsmith. The system was introduced in 2019’s Modern Warfare and lauded for its depth. This year’s version features more attachments, “interesting trade-offs” when selecting them, and the ability to “fine-tune” attachments according to GameSpot’s preview.

Game director Jack O’Hara noted that the team was leaning towards a maximum of four to five attachments per weapon. CharlieIntel on Twitter noted that the tuning system unlocks when leveling up weapons. It’s “very precise” with each attachment providing “positive and negative effects on the weapon.” The final number of attachments and how many each weapon will have is unknown. However, Infinity Ward reportedly said players can equip more than three but “way less than 10 attachments at a time.”

There are also “platforms” which serve as a “family of shared guns and attachments players can unlock.” Using one weapon will unlock similar attachments for other weapons in the same family. O’Hara told GameSpot that this customization offers “lots of tree branches.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is out on October 28th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Stay tuned later tonight at the Summer Game Fest showcase for more gameplay.
