Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has dominated the UK physical sales charts since launch, but it’s also a major hit across Europe. Physical and digital sales data from GSD for October 2022 revealed that the sequel and FIFA 23 caused game sales to rise by 1.5 percent over October 2021.
As GamesIndustry reports, first-week sales for Modern Warfare 2 were about 125 percent higher than Call of Duty: Vanguard last year. However, in just two weeks, the former is already close to out-selling the latter’s lifetime sales across markets in Europe. It’s already the third-best-selling title of the year, falling behind Elden Ring and FIFA 23 (whose sales were up four percent over last year’s title).
Other new releases include Gotham Knights in fourth, which launched at similar window as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and saw 13 percent lower sales in two weeks. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was in fifth place, selling 7.5 percent more units than its predecessor. A Plague Tale: Requiem was in 12th place, with sales down by 12 percent over the first game.
In total, 11.9 million games were sold in Europe for the month, with 6.84 million sold through digital download stores. The physical retail market saw a 13 percent decline year-on-year. Check out GSD’s top 20 best-selling games for October 2022 (digital and physical) below.
