If you asked a hardcore roguelike fan about the best game in the genre, the name Spelunky would inevitably come up. The beloved platformer remains relevant today thanks to its challenge and procedural generation, so the announcement of Spelunky 2 was obviously a big deal. However, that announcement was in October 2017 and the game was delayed from its 2019 release window. What’s currently going on?

Creator Derek Yu offered an update on PlayStation Blog, sharing new screenshots and thanking fans for their feedback on the previous trailer. “I think we’ve struck a good balance now, where the graphics are crisp and easy to parse, but the details still stand out enough so that you can easily soak them up as you play the game. Effects like lighting and liquids are more vibrant now, too, contributing to that feeling of a dynamic, living world that has been our goal since day one.”

Yu revealed that one of his goals with the sequel was to make each run “feel even more like a personalized adventure. Of course, players of the original game created a lot of their own stories through their choices during the game, and in my opinion those are still the most meaningful. We want to keep supporting that kind of creativity by adding more variety to the game.”

Players will find new items, some which can interact with the world in numerous ways (some interactions may not be all that obvious as well). New NPCs are coming but fans will probably spot a familiar face or two as well. Yu spoke more about audio as well, noting that composer Eirik Suhrke is creating  “is creating a dynamic, multilayered soundscape that is much more immersive than the first game.

“Each area not only has its own unique musical theme, but every creature, trap, item, and surface has its own suite of sound effects associated with it. Landing on grass in the Jungle will sound very different than landing on a conveyor belt in Volcana, for example. It’s perhaps a more subtle change but adds a lot to the distinct feel of each area.

Deathmatch is also being expanded in concept to measure up better to Adventure Mode. Improvements are being made to the journal and menus, and progression is more akin to “the feeling of building a small community of friends and family.” While a release date wasn’t offered, Yu did say that the team was getting “closer and closer.”

Spelunky 2 is currently slated to release on PS4 and PC. Stay tuned for even more details in the coming months.

Larian Studios will be premiering the gameplay for Baldur’s Gate 3 later today at PAX East 2020. In the meantime, however, it seems that screenshots for the RPG have leaked courtesy of French site JeuxActu. They’ve since been pulled but you can still see the screenshots below. Spoilers, as always, for those who want to wait for the reveal.

The game does look fairly gorgeous though, from the darker, more DnD aesthetic to the close-up shots of characters during conversations. It appears players will be able to choose between real-time and turn-based combat options, as denoted by the icon above the action bar. There is a fair bit of Divinity: Original Sin’s aesthetic with how the action bar is designed but that could change later.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently in development for PC and Google Stadia. According to Hasbro at a recent investor event, the title is slated to go into early access later this year. Stay tuned for more details – the gameplay reveal will take place at 12 PM PST.

Bandai Namco will be bringing a brand new game exclusively to the PS4 next month in Japan- it’s called City Shrouded in Shadows, and it looks like an acid trip gone very, very wrong (or very, very right depending on where you stand on these things, I suppose).

If you don’t believe me, you can just check out the brand new screenshots for the game, which Bandai Namco released today, for yourself below- you will find that it has a stark, surreal aesthetic, which is likely to make this game have a kind of cult appeal, if it fails to make waves on the market.

As for what these new screenshots show, they introduce a new enemy type, as well as a new mecha dragon, and some new characters. This is, truly, a kind of game that simply could not have existed in a AAA driven games industry (thank you Japanese developers).

City Shrouded in Shadow launches exclusively on the PS4 on October 19.

The French themed Battlefield 1 DLC, “They Shall Not Pass” is coming very soon now. The way you can tell is that we’re getting a ton of new info about the added content.

Among the tidbits that have been released this week are some screenshots that show this title is going to be keeping the theme of what is a very pretty game. The new pack of screenshots shows some new tanks as well as really good looking scenery and we also have a ton of details about what you’ll find in the content pack when it lands.

Among the new info is details about the Verdun Heights, where players will have to fight their way through a massive forest fire. There is also Rupture, where the war rages in what can only be described as a kind of tank graveyard. These maps and more are coming with the They Shall Not Pass DLC soon. Verdun Heights

The opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun created massive forest fires in which players will fight for domination. This is an uphill battle towards the massive fortresses of Verdun. A constant grinding struggle where the artillery never stops. Where the forge and “the Devil’s Anvil” continues to consume even the bravest combatants.

Fort Vaux

The first big engagement inside a fort during World War 1 takes place in the dark underworld of Fort Vaux. Down in the maze of dark galleries and wet stone corridors, French and Germans fight ferociously with grenades, guns, bayonets, and flamethrowers. Watch your corners!

Soissons

Take part in one of the biggest tank assaults of World War 1. The French 10th Army moves to take back Soissons using their powerful Saint Chamond tanks. Planes, tanks, and infantry clash in the beautiful French countryside in the early hours of a hot summer day. Only the thunderstorm is louder than the war.

Rupture

In dire need to capture key bridges across the Aisne river, the French find themselves back into battlefields where poppies grow over a rusty wreck from previous tank battles. It might seem calm but this maze of steel beasts provides an excellent place for those who plan an ambush. As the sun sets over Fontenoy, the battle wakes up.

New Frontlines battle

Experience a mix of Conquest and Rush as you fight for chained control points in a tug-of-war frontline. Both teams fight for one flag at a time and when this objective is captured the action moves on to the next. Capture the enemy’s HQ control point and the game turns into a Rush-style section where telegraph posts need to be attacked or defended.

Pilot A Steel Behemoth

Spawn into the Char 2C tank and control an epic new behemoth. Based on the real-world French tank, this super-heavy beast may turn the tide of the entire battle.

Trench Raider Elite Class

Use the melee skills of the new Elite Class: the Trench Raider. With the brutal Raider Club and impressive grenade arsenal, you will be a terrifying sight.

New Stationary Weapon

Similar to a Field Gun, the Siege Howitzer can be operated by an infantry player. This new stationary weapon is operated through indirect aiming/firing in the same vein as mortars and artillery in vehicles.

Now that we know that Mass Effect Andromeda is coming in March for sure, we’re getting lots of other details and  tidbits about the game as well. Among those little tidbits is a new batch of screenshots that show us some more gameplay, including a couple of scenes that show the main character in combat.

Almost all the shots also show off at least one environment in the game, though it’s a safe bet not every place is going to be as rock covered and devoid of plant life as the one featured in these images. Thanks to the images we can also see at least some of the menacing enemies that are coming to the game.

Mass Effect Andromeda is going to launch for the PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 21 in North America and March 23 in Europe. That means we don’t have much longer to wait. Thoughts on new screenshots? Let us know in the comments below.

The next iteration in the long running Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 7, received a new batch of screenshots showcasing indoor and outdoor environments, puzzles along with fantastic implementation of lighting which really sets up the scary look and feel the game is aiming for.

However there is more. Upon closer inspection one can clearly see that the ECG Health indicator from the original games has returned although its interface in on a wrist watch. Then there are some disturbing images such as the stitches around the protagonist’s forearms. May be his forearm was chopped off and then stitched back together?

Resident Evil 7 will also be playable on the PlayStation VR on the PlayStation 4. However according to an advertisement on Facebook, the VR version of the game will be timed exclusive on the PS4. The exclusivity will last for 12 months.

Resident Evil 7 launches next January on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Earlier in July, DriveClub VR was announced as a Japanese launch title for PlayStation VR. Sony Interactive Entertainment officially revealed the game through the PlayStation Blog, confirming its 2016 release window. The virtual reality version of DriveClub promises to include already-existing tracks, as well as “five all-new Urban locations.”

The studio continued to detail some features that were designed specifically for DriveClub VR, such as cruise control and virtual passenger. The latter allows players to witness “exciting replays of hot laps” from a unique viewpoint, while cruise control is “a little time to kick back, open the throttle or just coast and explore any track, in any country at your leisure in Cruise Mode.”

DriveClub VR will be playable over at Gamescom 2016, so make sure to give it a try if you’re there. While we wait for the game’s release later this year, take a look at these newly released screenshots.

Like with so many famed protagonists of literature (and other media), the protagonist of Vampyr leads a double life- he’s a doctor on one hand, and a, you guessed it, vampire on the other. The new game, which is by Dontnod, the same folks who brought us Remember Me and the excellent Life Is Strange, is an action RPG.

These new screenshots don’t show off any of that- but they do show off the protagonist’s duality pretty convincingly. They also show off the game’s extremely strong sense of an artstyle (which makes sense, since Dontnod did so well on that front in Life Is Strange).

Time and time again, Naughty Dog have proven to be one of the best innovators in the games industry as far as visuals goes. They set new benchmarks on the PlayStation 3 with the first three Uncharted games and The Last of Us. But with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End on the PS4 they have taken video game graphics to an all new level. We recently covered the intricacies behind the technology used in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End but the screenshots below this post show how far video games have come as far as graphics are concerned.

These screenshots posted by several Neogaf users use a number of different camera angles and effects that is only possible by using the game’s Photo mode. Furthermore, some screenshots also employ filters to make them look better or different compared to the original image quality.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is by far one of the best looking games of this generation and sets a new benchmark for visuals on the PS4. Whether it looks better than DriveClub is a discussion for another day but for now take a look at these amazing screenshots below.

Fallout fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of Fallout 4: Far Harbor, the next (and final) bit of DLC in wave one of Fallout 4′s post launch support. The new DLC is supposed to be the biggest bit of post launch content that Bethesda have ever worked on- and given how substantial some of Bethesda’s previous DLC has been, it’s easy to see why fans are excited for the new game.

Which is why it’s such a big deal when we have so many screenshots leaked from Far Harbor– you can check them out here and here (there may be spoilers). There’s a lot of them, and they unveil the game’s maps, environments, combat, crafting, and more. It is all mostly non spoilery stuff, though if you’re sensitive to this kind of thing, you probably want to not check the images at all.

Fallout 4 Far Harbor is going to launch on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this month- an exact release date is not yet known.
