Matt Makes Games’ Celeste will be year old this month and has been a stellar success in its own right. It sold over 500,000 copies across various platforms in 2018, besides netting several nominations for Game of the Year (including from ourselves). Director and designer Matt Thorson had teased some DLC coming for the platformer before the new year, and in a new tweet, we finally get some concrete information.
First off, the DLC will be one continuous chapter without a B-Side variant (which is a tougher optional difficulty for players). It will be after the current highest level of difficulty though, so expect some kind of challenge nonetheless. There won’t be any strawberries to collect, but there will be new items, and new mechanics to learn.
The DLC will also be free for all platforms. Unfortunately, it won’t release on January 25th, the game’s first year anniversary. We’ll have to wait for a more definitive release date, but it should be worth it. For more information on Celeste and why it’s so great, read our official review here.
