When Celeste from Matt Makes Games released, it received a strong amount of critical acclaim (GamingBolt itself awarded the title a perfect 10). Though Game of the Year awards have been dominated by God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2, Celeste still made strong impression on the industry. And thankfully, it also performed fairly well in sales.
Director and designer Matt Thorson revealed on Twitter that the platformer had sold more than 500,000 copies in 2018. Thorson further said, “Thank you everyone who played it. We never expected it to reach so many people.” Celeste is available on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch, but a breakdown of sales per platform wasn’t provided.
Thorson also shared some details on additional levels that would be coming in early 2019. “We’re working on some farewell Celeste levels, which should be ready in early 2019. They’re very hard.” Interestingly, Thorson also teased an announcement for what’s coming next for the developer in 2019. We’ll have to stay tuned for more information in the new year, but the developer’s next title is definitely one we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
