Civilization 7 Won’t Utilize the 2K Launcher on PC

Firaxis is doing away with an unpopular requirement before the 4X strategy title's release in Q1 2025 for consoles and PC.

With Firaxis set to showcase Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 next week at Gamescom, it confirmed that the 4X strategy title won’t require the 2K Launcher on PC. Furthermore, the Steam version of Civilization 6 has been updated with the same (with the Epic Games Store receiving this change in “the near future”).

Considering how generally annoying it is to require multiple launchers to play a single title, this is a good change. As for Civilization 7, it’s targeting launch sometime in Q1 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Its gameplay premieres at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20th.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, a deep dive will air at 1:30 PM PT on the developer’s Twitch channel. Clocking in at over 20 minutes, it will outline the sequel’s “innovative new features” while also providing “exclusive insights” from the team. Gamescom attendees can also go hands-on with the title from August 21st to 25th, though there will also be a developer panel at PAX West on August 31st.
