The next big game from Remedy Entertainment has finally been revealed – Control Resonant, launching in 2026. While the first entry focused on Jesse Faden, the sequel is about her brother and has a completely different vibe in its own right.
After a “world-ending threat” hits Manhattan, Dylan is deployed by the Federal Bureau of Control to bring things to order. Alongside looking for redemption, he’s also searching for Jesse, and you really have to wonder how long after the events of FBC: Firebreak this takes place.
In a new PlayStation Blog article, co-creative director Mikael Kasurinen said Resonant is “our boldest step yet in expanding the Control universe.” While previously confirmed as an action RPG, it’s also open-ended. Manhattan offers various “expansive zones,” with each “hiding branching missions, encounters, and events to tackle in any order.”
“This world is alive, strange, and replayable – full of discoveries that reward curiosity and exploration,” says Kasurinen.
That freedom extends to the different ways that Dylan can fight, thanks to the “deep progression system.” So while you could harness the power of the Aberrant – the melee weapon serving as a fitting counterpart to the Service Weapon – you can also rely on different abilities (including environmental manipulation) to succeed.
“Combined with Dylan’s evolving powers, it creates fast, physical, and unpredictable combat that feels distinctly Control.” Kasurinen described each encounter as an “experiment in chaos,” which sounds about right given the city’s state.
Control Resonant is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
