Crimson Desert Has Sold More Than 5 Million Copies Worldwide

Pearl Abyss announced this latest milestone with a social media post thanking fans of Crimson Desert for supporting the game.

Pearl Abyss has announced that Crimson Desert has hit another impressive sales milestone, having sold 5 million copies worldwide. The announcement was made through a social media post where the studio thanked players for supporting the game since its release last month.

Crimson Desert has sold through over 5 million copies worldwide,” wrote Pearl Abyss. “Thank you to every Greymane who has joined us on this journey, experienced the world of Pywel, and supported the game. Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without your support, and we are truly grateful.”

The announcement of this milestone comes just a couple of weeks after Pearl Abyss had last confirmed its previous sales milestones of 4 million copies. The growing momentum of the open-world action adventure game falls in line with what CEO Heo Jin-young said back in March, noting that the studio was going to “quickly share news” of hitting the 5 million sales milestone.

“Next, we aim to quickly share news of reaching 5 million copies sold with our shareholders, and all employees will work hard to achieve the best possible results by the end of the year,” Heo said during an earnings call. He went on to discuss the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 release as well. “Compared to other consoles, the Switch still has lower specifications, so there are things we would have to give up.” To that end, he has confirmed that the studio has “begun R&D with interest.”

The strong sales performance of Crimson Desert can likely be attributed to a quite a few things, including the continuous post-launch support offered by Pearl Abyss through the release of free updates. One such update from earlier this week brought in some quality-of-life features, like the ability to toggle whether or not weapons are displayed, and new abilities.

Pearl Abyss has also confirmed that it will be bringing in host of other fan-requested features to Crimson Desert through future updates, like the ability to have rematches against bosses, allowing players to “face off against any boss again, test how much you’ve grown, and further refine your own combat style through different strategies and approaches.”

Players in the late-game parts of Crimson Desert also have re-blockading to look forward to, which puts liberated locations at risk of being taken over by hostile forces. Along with this, the title will also be getting three difficulty modes: Easy, Normal, and Hard. The studio hasn’t yet confirmed when these additions will make it into the game, however. Considering the fact that later parts of the game are hurt by distinct lack of things to fight, these changes might be just what it needs.
