The world of Cyberpunk 2077 is looking to be like nothing else out there, at least as far as gaming goes. While near future setting is nothing new, the heavy cyberpunk focus is something we haven’t seen much. But how big will it be? Well, it won’t be quite as big as the previous game from CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3, but what it lacks in size it makes up in density.
In an interview with Gamesradar, Producer Richard Borzymowski confirmed that the world of Cyberpunk 2077, while large in and of itself, wouldn’t quite be as big as the last Witcher title, but much like an actual city, it’s packed with activity. So while there’s a lot of ‘dead space,’ for lack of a better word, in a game like The Witcher 3, 2077 will be filled to the brim with things to do making it a much denser feeling title.
“In Witcher 3, we had an open world with valleys and forests between smaller and bigger towns such as Novigrad. In Cyberpunk 2077 you’re going to Night City which is integral to the setting of the game. [The city] itself basically is its own character […], it must be densely packed to create the intended effect of portraying a believable city. ”
With a medieval fantasy title, wide open spaces make more sense than a packed dystopia city filled to the brim with citizens. Either way, Cyberpunk 2077 is sure to take up a lot of your time when it launches next year, and we should see the Gamescom footage at the end of this month, with the game confirmed to be shown at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
