Cyberpunk 2077’s World Will Be Fully Handcrafted

There will be nothing that is procedurally generated in the game.

There are a handful of open world games this generation that elevated the genre, but one among them is undoubtedly The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Launching in 2015, the game broke ground due to its massive, handcrafted open world, that was filled to the brim with meaningfully contextualized content for the player to stumble upon.

For their next game, CD Projekt RED will look to repeat that feat. Speaking to Jeux Act (translation via Wccftech), the game’s Lead Animator, Maciej Pietras said that the game would have a fully hand crafted world, with nothing in it that is procedurally generated. That, and you will be able to enter many buildings in the game as well.

“[Cyberpunk 2077] will allow you to enter many buildings, knowing that everything was done by hand, because we believe that quality comes first through manual creation, nothing is procedural in our world. It is in this that the city of Night City will be vast to go, thanks to this verticality,” he said.

This, as I mentioned, is right in line with the design philosophy of The Witcher 3, which only serves to fill me with excitement at how great Cyberpunk 2077 might be when it does end up launching. Hopefully, it’s a game with a great, dense open world, filled with things to find, whenever it does end up launching—about which, at this point, all we know is that it will launch when it is ready.
