DayZ Stormed by 88,000 Users in 12 Hours

Creator Dean Hall notes 19,000 hours were present within the first hour of launch.

Though it took a good long while for Bohemia Interactive’s standalone game for DayZ to finally go live – that too in an early access alpha build – it’s received its fair share of attention thus far. About 88,000 players have signed up for DayZ within the last 12 hours, according to the developer on Twitter, despite having to pay £19.99 for Steam Early Access. Again, keep in mind that this is for an alpha.

Creator Dean Hall also revealed something interesting – there were about 19,000 unique players in the game’s database only an hour after launch, which made for 200 users every second. Hall’s response on Twitter summed it up perfectly: “What the hell…”

Early adopters of the game include Gears of War creator and former Epic Games designer Cliff Bleszinski. Have you had a chance to take part in the alpha? Is the overwhelming response that the it’s received thus far motivate you to give it a shot? Let us know what you think below.
