Deathloop on PS5 Will Use the DualSense’s Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers

"I think that players will enjoy those functionalities," says game director Dinga Bakaba.

Deathloop being a PS5 exclusive launch title (or console exclusive, at the very least) is something that still surprises a lot of people. Third party exclusives are rare in today’s day and age, so seeing Arkane Studios’ next game committing fully to PlayStation is intriguing, to say the least.

Of course, given that – and given that it’s a launch title for the console – it is also expected to be a showcase of what the PS5 is capable of, which means making use of the console’s new features in interesting ways, in order to really be able to show off just what sort of an impact they can have. Speaking in a recent interview with IGNDeathloop’s game director Dinga Bakaba explains that that is exactly what Arkane is attempting with Deathloop.

On top of re-iterating that Deathloop will have higher resolution and frame rate on the PS5 than what it would have been able to manage on current-gen hardware (he emphasized the value of 60 FPS in particular), Bakaba also noted that the game will feature HDR and “some use of ray tracing.”The first thing that it means for games is just comfort, like higher resolution, higher frame rate, things like HDR, some use of ray tracing, etc,” he said. “Just having higher fidelity on screen to make Seb’s team’s work shine in a way that it never did before is really exciting. Of course, I mentioned the frame rate. I think that’s something really important. Until now our games and consoles have always been 30fps. Being able to target 60 for an action game, it’s very exciting.”

Following that, Bakaba went on to confirm that Deathloop will also use the PS5’s unique haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, going on to note that being a first person game, Deathloop will place a lot of emphasis on immersion, which is something these features will help out with.

“It’s got a lot of nice features with the haptics feedback, the active triggers. We are a first person game. We really value immersion a lot in our games,” Bakaba said. “Really feel the weapons in your hand, its reaction, how it reloads, how it reacts to reloading, etc… I think that players will enjoy those functionalities.”

Deathloop launches this Holiday for PS5 and PC. Given the fact that Sony haven’t yet shared the PS5’s release date, we don’t know when exactly Deathloop – and other PS5 launch titles – will come out, but we expect (or hope) Sony will reveal that information soon. Stay tuned for more details.
