Destiny 2 Breakthrough Mode Goes Live on September 25th

New Crucible mode along with four new maps (one PS4 exclusive) will also go live.

Significant content updates continue for Destiny 2 following the launch of Forsaken. Bungie announced in its recent weekly update that the new Crucible mode Breakthrough will go live on September 25th. New maps like Equinox, Firebase Echo, and The Citadel will also be available to play in the new mode (with PS4 players also receiving Gambler’s Ruin). The recently released Convergence will also be available in Breakthrough.

So what is Breakthrough? Players will compete to capture a central zone and can deploy a Breaker once it’s captured. The zone then becomes contested, but once a team finally deploys the Breaker, the enemy team’s vault will be available to hack. Hack the vault and you win that round. Win three rounds and victory is yours.

There are some terms and conditions though. Failure to hack the enemy’s vault within the round time limit results in a loss. Sudden Death will trigger while in the process of hacking a Vault, and this only ends if you’re successful, or the enemy team stops you.

If it sounds especially competitive, that’s because it is. Breakthrough will be going into the Competitive playlist for Crucible on October 2nd. However, it will be a Weekly Featured Playlist on September 25th and available in Private Matches from that point as well. For more information on post-launch content plans, head here.
