When Destiny 2 comes out later this year, there will be a lot of unfamiliar stuff, even for people who clocked hundred of hours into the first game. But one thing that won’t have changed is the classes. Recently, the game’s executive producer David Allen was asked in an interview with Metro just why Bungie decided not to include any new classes in the upcoming sequel, to which he said that the development team instead chose to focus on expanding what they already had.
“When we think about the game we look at where do we feel like we have an area to grow?” Allen said. “We feel like the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock… there’s still new ways to play those classes that we can explore. And when you look at the community that exists around the game, up to this point, and you see the attachment that they have to those. You see pictures of people on the Internet who have the logos tattooed on their bodies and you think, ‘This is something that people really have a deep connection to’.”
Well, sure… but surely Bungie could have just let these classes be and included more on top of them, right? This very question was then posed to Allen. “It’s interesting for me as a player,” he said in response. “I could’ve played a Hunter since day one, and whenever I look at some of the new sub-classes I’m like, maybe I should change to a Warlock. And then I have like this weird twinge where I’m like, ‘But I’m a Hunter, I can’t do that!’”
That wasn’t really an answer, to be honest, but then again, it does make sense that Bungie want to expand the existing classes furthermore and add new ways to play around with them rather than adding new classes. Who knows, maybe they’ll add some later on in the future with DLCs.
