In the latest issue of Game Informer, Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith revealed that the Crucible – the game’s de facto PvP mode – would have Quickplay and Competitive playlists.
Crucible Radio on Twitter picked out the quotes in question where Smith said, “”Quickplay is the place where you’re going to find more party games – Control, Clash, Supremacy.
“Competitive play has two modes – one we’re not talking about right now, and the other is Countdown. These are objective modes…” Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on a proper ranking system for Competitive play.
Destiny received its fair share of hate for implementing heavy skill-based matchmaking in its Crucible modes, thus leading to a much more competitive experience for better players. Unfortunately, this approach was criticized for coming with constant “sweaty” games and poor connection quality. Destiny 2’s approach at least recognizes that a playlist with more emphasis on connection quality and casual play is needed.
Destiny 2 is slated for release on September 8th for Xbox One and PS4. It will arrive on PC later.
