Destiny 2 Updates And Events Will Release Simultaneously on PC and Consoles

Weapon balance will also be separate on PC from the console versions.

Bungie’s Destiny 2 will be arriving on PC soon and as hardcore players bemoan the lack of end-game content or meaningful rewards, it was revealed that the PC version would receive future updates and events on the same day as PS4 and Xbox One.

PC lead David Shaw spoke to PC Gamer about this and noted that it made sense that all platforms would be part of the same seasonal cycle. “It’s funny, people are like ‘is that real?’ It’s honestly easier for us to ship them all together than it is to try and separate anything out. For us our intent is 100 percent to keep all our platforms equal.”

That doesn’t mean that Bungie and developer Vicarious Visions, who’s actually handling the PC version, aren’t aware of the challenges of balancing for PC. Shaw noted that tools were already place to allow for separate balance in different platform versions. “That work we did, we don’t want to get stuck in the lurch like ‘I wish we could tune this one rocket launcher separately’, we built stuff that will allow us to diverge if we need to, our intent is to stay as similar as possible, but we’ll see what happens.”

Shaw also noted that the development team would be listening to PC players with regards to technical issues like errors and crashes. “Are they having different challenges? As we get crash reports we’ll be differentiating by platform and saying ‘okay what does PC need?’ So if we find things that are problematic we certainly will be eager to address them.”

It’s already been confirmed that the Leviathan Raid, its Prestige mode, Trials of the Nine and other events would be going live later in the PC version of Destiny 2. You can check exactly when by heading here.
