Bungie’s Destiny 2 isn’t even a month old yet but it seems that a proper meta has set in for the Crucible. Hilariously enough, it’s the MIDA Multi-Tool, a gun from Destiny 1 which is dominating PvP matches. Then again, due to the nature of 4v4 and long sightlines on most maps, many players see it as a natural choice. Of course, the fact that everyone can get it as a quest reward doesn’t help.
Bungie senior designer Jon Weisnewski has been looking at the “first real batch of player data” and addressed weapon balance in the latest weekly update. He noted that it’s too soon for the developer to announce anything but did say there was an “ongoing process in play”.
“We’re not ready to go into detail about any weapon or ability tuning at this point, but there is an ongoing process in play, so we did want to drop a quick line and say…We have heard your feedback. Thank you!”
So the question is: What about the MIDA Multi-Tool? Weisnewski said that Bungie were looking “very closely” at the gun and reinforced that even if it’s popular, it may not necessarily be the most effective gun in the game.
“It is popular, but according to our data, there are options out there that match or exceed its effectiveness in all activities. Have you found one? It’s only the first month of a long adventure. Many players are still gathering weapons for their arsenal and we have a handful of guns that haven’t even hit the game yet. We’re excited to see how things evolve. As always, thanks for playing, and keep the feedback rolling in.”
Which makes sense – Bungie have recently added new weapons in the recent Faction Rally and players have already begun to proclaim Future War Cult’s weapons as the best. Anyway, given the relative age of Destiny 2, it’s going to take a wider spectrum of data to see just how overpowered MIDA Multi-Tool really is (spoiler: Not that much).
