Destiny 2 marks the debut of the game on PC, but for those of you who were also expecting or hoping that this would finally be the time when the franchise would also be available on Nintendo via a Nintendo Switch version- well, don’t raise your hopes. In an interview with IGN, Destiny project lead Mark Noteworthy has shot down any chances of a Switch version of the game happening, owing to the portable nature of Nintendo’s system, which makes an online only game rather unfeasible and unrealistic.
“I think it’s pretty unrealistic, given we’re an online-only game, right?” he said. “The Switch, because it’s a portable – and I love my Switch, I’ve got Breath of the Wild here, I’ve got it with me. It’s incredible, I love the console, but in terms of where it’s at, I don’t want leave anyone with the possibility of, like, ‘it’s a thing we’ll consider, maybe next year.’ There’s no plans right now for Switch.”
This is fair, as it seems to understand the strengths and weaknesses of what the Switch is, along with the strengths and weaknesses of what Destiny is. While it’s a bummer that the game won’t be available on Nintendo’s new system, in this case, it truly looks like there was no other option.
