I have to hand it to Bungie- for a game as thoroughly mediocre and poorly received as Destiny (the reception for the game did not change with time; as a matter of fact, some would argue it got worse, what with the recent expansion and some design changes it brought with it having prompted outrage), they’ve managed to do a pretty good job at keeping layers invested and playing their game.
At some level, their game works and is well designed- even if the core of this design is mostly just an endless, RNG dominated grind. A lot of this ‘grind’ comes from trying to get the very best of everything in the game- materials, weapons, and of course, ships.
