Destiny Registered Players “Nearly” 30 Million, Activision Working With Bungie for Future Content

"Passion and loyalty from our fans is something we don't take for granted."

During its quarterly earnings report, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed that Bungie’s Destiny had almost reached 30 million registered players. The shared world shooter hit the 25 million mark in November 2015 and the April update has been cited as a major factor for the community becoming “re-engaged with the game”.

It noted that Destiny players were averaging 100 hours of play time each and that “remarkably strong even after the release of some competitive games in the genre.”

What happens when fans get tired of the April update though? Hirshberg said, “It’s clear fans are hungry for more content than we have been able to create. That passion and loyalty from our fans is something that we don’t take for granted. Which is why we’re working side by side with Bungie to make sure that in the future, we’re able to deliver a more consistent stream of great content and drive even more engagement.”

It’s not too far off from High Moon Studios working with Bungie on Destiny 2 though this is the first time we’re hearing of Activision assisting in content updates. Guess those Eververse micro-transactions have been doing better than expected.
