Destiny The Taken King Raid Releases on September 18th, Court of Oryx Info and More

Bungie showcases its new public events mode in the upcoming expansion.

Bungie has just concluded its latest live-stream for Destiny’s upcoming expansion The Taken King and we got a look at the new public events mode Court of Oryx which players will encounter in the Dreadnaught. However, creative director Luke Smith also appeared at the end of the stream to tease some footage of King’s Fall, the new raid in the expansion, and to announce its release date: September 18th, just three days after the expansion is out.

Court of Oryx is an interesting new way to tackle public events though – as you’d expect – there’s a bit of grinding involved. Players will find different runes out in the world which are offered to the Court. This summons powerful bosses and enemies which must be defeated within the time limit. The player sacrificing the rune is awarded the best loot though everyone – even random passersby on Patrol – will gain something for participating. It should also be noted that players won’t be able to AFK during the events due to an event cancellation timer.

Runes have different tiers and you reach higher tiers by beating out enemies in the lower tiers. These enemies include a trio of Wizards that must be killed together, lest they respawn; an Ogre that can only be damaged by Cursed Thrall explosions; and more. Some higher rounds will even have combinations of bosses, such as fighting the aforementioned Ogre and a duo of Knights that can only be damaged when close to each other.

We also got a look at the new Raze-Lighter, an Exotic heavy sword which is capable of uppercut slices and makes short work of heavier enemies. Its perks included increased armour, increased Super energy gained from kills and different skills like the uppercut. This will be an Exotic quest item so everyone will have a chance to earn one and it seems there are different elements associated with it as well.

Destiny: The Taken King releases on September 15th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4. Thoughts on the Court of Oryx? Let us know in the comments.
