There’s another update inbound for Destiny that is going to fix a well known bug that has been known about for quite some time by now, the heavy ammo bug. The bug was particularly bothersome for players that love their heavy weapons and the amount of damage they can put down range. The patch is set to drop in February and resolve the issue.
The heavy ammo bug would leave heavy weapon ammo reserves severely lacking after you return to orbit, enter a cut scene or die. The community manager for Destiny, DeeJ, spoke with Destiny’s Sandbox Engineer, Jon Cable, about the problem and the fix.
Jon says, “The bug occurred because the weapon is created before capacity modifiers from armor perks are applied, so the persisted fraction yields fewer rounds.” This is in reference to the games inventory systems creating your weapons when you spawn rather than using persistent data.
Jon goes on to talk about how “Fixing bugs in a live game is always about managing risk.” and recognizes that you can’t just “fix” the problematic perk because of the inherent knock on effect that would have on the rest of the game. So instead he came up with a “surgical change” that will hopefully fix the underlying issue while minimizing the risk to existing systems by introducing a new problem.
Trigger fingers crossed, Guardians.
