Destiny’s Gjallarhorn, “Select Exotics” Won’t Have Year Two Upgrades

Bungie will not only nerf Gjallarhorn but make it less powerful by default when The Taken King drops.

The first live-stream for Destiny’s The Taken King – with the stream itself focusing on all the new quality of life changes coming for Year Two – revealed a new quandary for veterans and Exotic owners to pine over. The introduction of Exotic Blueprints and the ability to upgrade to a Year Two version of an Exotic for free if you own the Year One variant looked appealing at first, despite having to spend Legendary Marks and time to re-level the upgraded gun.

However, there was concern when weapons like Gjallarhorn didn’t have Year Two upgrades. Bungie has since clarified in its Weekly Update that, “Gjallarhorn will remain a Year One Exotic at Year One levels.”

Not only that but when answering how players would acquire Year Two Exotics based on blueprints from Year One, it was revealed that, “Select weapons and armor pieces that have been redesigned for Year Two can be purchased for Legendary Marks, assuming you discovered the original Year One Blueprints.”

So if you haven’t seen your favourite gun – like MIDA Multi-Tool and Thorn – in the Year Two Exotic collection, it’s because it won’t be making the jump. This decision, especially since guns like Gjallarhorn are being nerfed, is perplexing to say the least and has been met with a mixed response from the community.
